Getting ready to update your home’s look? While last year’s trends were all about comfort and simplicity, 2017 interior design trends focus on being bold, bright, and connected.
Here are 5 top trends design experts recommend this year, many of which are departures from 2016:
1. Bright colors
Pantone’s 2016 colors of the year were Rose Quartz and Serenity; very reminiscent of baby blue and a subtle pink. But this year, Pantone took a complete 180 with Greenery: a bright, springy green that is sure to light up any room. According to Pantone, Greenery is a symbol of new beginnings. Also in this year are vibrant jewel tones.
2. Smart Home Elements
While connected homes have risen in popularity over the past several years, gadget-free living rooms were all the rage in 2016. Connectivity is back full force this year, so get ready to make your home smarter than ever.
3. Strong Materials
Naturally-finished wood, subway tiles, and marble are top design materials in 2017. If you like heavy and sturdy materials, you are in luck. While marble and subway tiles are best used in kitchens and bathrooms, wood looks good anywhere. Get creative!
What looks great alongside beautiful wood and vibrant colors? Patterned fabrics, of course! Accent those bold colors and heavy materials with whimsical patterns.
When it comes to arranging a room, it’s all about usability. Organize furniture in such a way that you and your guests feel welcome and able to move and engage freely.
