What Does Generation X Look for in a Home?

According to Realtor.com, the Generation X homeownership rate was 58.9% in early 2016 and is expected to rise in 2017. If you are planning to sell a home soon, be sure to consider this important demographic! Now you’re probably asking yourself: what does Generation X look for in a home?

Taking a look at a demographic’s preferred pastimes is a good way to gain insight regarding which home features will be of greatest interest to a potential buyer. In the case of Gen X, cooking is a top hobby. Seventy-one percent of Gen Xers enjoy cooking in general, while 66% enjoy barbecuing or grilling specifically. Fifty-three percent of Gen Xers spend time baking.

Approximately half of Gen X households have at least one child under 18 years, so nearby schools are important as well.

If you are considering investing in smart home upgrades, go for it–45% of Gen Xers wish they had a greater ability to monitor their home remotely via a mobile device. Home management technology growth is constant, so take the time to see what’s available!
