There are many reasons why people move: from job changes, to schools, to lifestyle desires such as urban or rural living. But did you know that over 60% of Americans wish to downsize their home? Home size is a major factor for owners, renters, and house hunters alike. Only 32% of Americans would choose a home the same size as the one in which they currently live. And among affluent Americans, 53% wish to downsize.
According to AEI, the average American home today is 1,000 square feet larger than a typical home in 1973. Put differently, home sizes have doubled in the past 40 years.
